Gary's Extra Points Column
Hi Bluebook Fans!
Well we now have the first NFL week in the books and there were some real "Shockers" in Week 1. But remember, more in the NFL than in CFB, it's "JUST ONE GAME". No Camps all summer and just the Pre-season made for some strange results. It's clear the NFL has become a bigger Passing league than ever, breaking a longtime NFL Record in this very first week of 2011. We had 17 QB's throw for over 300 passing yards and games averaged a Much Higher than expected 47 points per game in Week 1.
I am truly disappointed how poorly our UNLV FB team played last week, now looking as if we may have one of the worst 10 Offenses and possibly the very worst Defense in all of CFB. Ouch!
One thing we definitely learned is the "Gap" between the Top CFB teams and the lower ones is much, much closer in 2011 than it's ever been. You will hear many games called "UPSET" when in reality, many really won't be. The "Elite" teams are still very solid teams, but the lower teams are gaining ground and I expect more Shocking scores each week in CFB than ever before.
The biggest shocker so far is Notre Dame being (0-2). It's rare to ever see a team gain 500+ yards two weeks in a row and come out (0-2) unless they were playing in the MAC. ND really has just one problem and that is the HC Brian Kelly. He is a "screamer" on the sidelines and like Charlie Weis, it doesn't rub off on the Players well DURING games. This Irish team is simply LOADED on Offense and should pile up yards and points all season long. But 10 turnovers in 2 games, that surely won't get you many wins, against any opponents, let alone two solid programs. But don't count out ND just yet. Turnovers won't happen every week that badly, and the team is really too talented to suffer a losing season in 2011. Many teams played 2 "Cupcakes" to start the new season off, whereas ND played two most likely Bowl Teams. Those tougher games will pay off for the Irish the rest of the way.
Ok well Radio Show is at normal Friday Night 6-8PM time slot this week (Sept 16th). Listen in as I'll preview a ton of games for the weekend FB card, and mostly from a "Betting Perspective".
Have a great weekend ahead and may all your wagers be WINNING ones.
God Bless,
